Hyrox: The new fitness challenge conquers Belgium

A new sporting wind is blowing through Belgium: Hyrox. This combination of strength and endurance has rapidly gained popularity in recent months. The first Belgian race took place in April of this year. Hyrox is no ordinary running race, nor is it a pure strength competition. It's a hybrid sport that challenges participants both physically and mentally. What is Hyrox?

Hyrox is a fixed combination of running and functional strength exercises. Participants cover a total of 8 kilometers, alternating with an intensive strength test after each kilometer. The eight strength events that every athlete must complete are:

The course takes about an hour and a half to complete, depending on your skill level. The sport is open to everyone aged 16 and over, with age categories even going up to 70+. Whether you're participating recreationally or aiming for a podium finish, everyone will find their place at Hyrox.

Difference with cross-fit

Cross-Fit and Hyrox are often practiced by the same people, but they are still distinct. While Hyrox has a fixed structure, Cross-Fit is much more dynamic, and the variation can vary significantly from location to location and from day to day. Cross-Fit focuses on strength, speed, and coordination with constant variation, while Hyrox focuses on strength, endurance, and mental focus.  

From Germany to Belgium

Hyrox originated in Germany in 2017 and has enjoyed steady growth there. The unique combination of cardio and strength appealed to a wide audience, from CrossFitters to marathon runners.
