56th Edition of the Dodentocht

On Friday 8 August, the Dodentocht will start for the 56th time. That day, around 13,000 athletes will take on this challenge. Some participate for charity, others see it as a personal test, but every participant begins with the same goal: to reach the finish line within 24 hours. Since many participants come to us each year for advice on completing the event more smoothly, Concap is sharing a few tips and tricks for this and future editions. Experienced participants know by now: it all starts with proper preparation and continues with the right nutrition and support. 😉

To start with, just this: If you are focusing on this edition, we hope that over the past weeks and months you have prepared thoroughly with the necessary walking or running training, and that your shoes are already well broken in.

But alongside that training, there are a few additional things you can focus on in the final days before the event, which can make a difference in whether or not you achieve your goal.

Rest in the days leading up to the event and pay close attention to what your body can handle. Avoid all long training sessions now and ensure you get plenty of sleep in the week before the event, so your muscles are relaxed and you can start with a “fresh mind.”

đŸš¶â€â™‚ïž What to Eat and Drink During the Event?

Performing well starts even before the first step. If you are not yet drinking 2 litres of water per day, now is the time to start. During an event like this, you lose a lot of fluids – whether it’s hot or cold, you will sweat regardless. Make sure you arrive at the start well hydrated.

Refuelling your energy reserves is also essential. In the days leading up to the event, choose carbohydrate-rich foods such as white pasta, white bread, or rice. These quick-release carbohydrates are stored as fuel for the journey. Only eating salads? Then you risk your body quickly tapping into your muscles for energy – something you definitely want to avoid.

đŸ’Ș Extra Support for Your Endurance

Want that little extra boost? Then start a few days beforehand with our  un-BEET-able shotsThis beetroot juice boosts oxygen delivery to your muscles, helping you endure longer. Ideal for an event that is as physically as it is mentally demanding.

🔁 Keep Refuelling During the Dodentocht

It is also important to eat and drink regularly during the event. Keep your energy levels stable with energy bars and switch to energy gels towards the end, when fatigue sets in. Avoid foods you are not familiar with. Be especially cautious with local supplies and only take what you know.

Do you also want to stay mentally sharp? Then our  Concap Forte or Sport capsules are definitely worth taking with you. Take 4 capsules before the start for a long-lasting effect. During the event, you can take more every 3–4 hours if you notice your focus or energy dropping.

⚡ Refuel with the Right Drink

Water alone is not enough. Instead, opt for a thirst-quencher with electrolytes, such as Concap elektrolyten with ORS 55-11 with tropical flavour This not only replenishes your fluid but also your salt balance – and it tastes good too, which helps you keep drinking enough. If you’re not yet familiar with our drinks, make sure to try them in the coming days.

🧂 Trouble with Cramps?

Cramps can really ruin your event. Use proactively magnesium in your drink, or take handy magnesiumshots with you. They act quickly and are enriched with vitamin B6 for better absorption. This way, you can continue walking or running pain-free in no time.

🩠 Stomach and Gut Issues

During the Dodentocht, stomach and gut issues such as nausea, cramps, or diarrhoea can occur due to physical exertion, heat, and altered eating habits. Proper preparation is crucial to minimise these problems. Taking X-Nutri enhance immunityin the weeks leading up to the event can help balance your gut flora and support digestion. This reduces the likelihood of issues during the event and increases your comfort and endurance throughout the challenge.

In addition, all our energy bars and energy gels products are stomach- and gut-friendly, allowing you to use them with confidence during the Dodentocht.

🔋 Need an Extra Boost?

Feeling your energy reserves dwindling towards the end? Then you can take one more energieshot for a quick and powerful boost. They help you push through that final stretch.

🛌 How to Recover After the Event?

After such a strenuous effort, rest is key. Avoid intense training and give your body the chance to recover.

A Concap Protein Recup Bar After the finish, provide your muscles with the right nutrients immediately: proteins and carbohydrates, to prevent muscle breakdown and speed up recovery.

Do you want to support your recovery overnight as well? Then our amino acid before bedtime are a good idea. They help reduce muscle stiffness, promote muscle recovery, and support the healing of minor muscle tears.
