Which energy gel do you use?

Over the years, our range has Concap energygels continue to grow. Our gels are hot items, especially among our endurance athletes. Whether you’re into cycling, triathlons, marathons or even kayaking, Concap gels will replenish your carbohydrates in no time. There are various types of energy gels, each with different types and doses of carbohydrates, as well as additional ingredients. We’ve put together a list of these for you, along with their benefits.

What is an energy gel?

An energy gel ensures you can easily replenish your energy with extra carbohydrates whilst exercising. If you run out of carbohydrates, your body will run out of energy, which is very unpleasant during a competition or training session. Our energy gels are easy to carry, easy to open and don’t stick! What’s more, with our gels, you don’t necessarily need to drink anything. In addition, the gels we produce are gentle on the stomach and of very high quality.

Concap gels enriched with ingredients such as caffeine or vitamins have also been approved by the authorities, so you can use them with complete confidence during your workouts. You will always find the relevant NUT number listed alongside the product in question on our webshop.

Types of energy gels and their uses

Caffeine-free energy gels

This category includes the  Concap Energy Gel Peach 60ml,  Concap Energiegel Extra Peach 80g Beta FuelConcap Energiegel Extra Cola 80g Beta Fuel and Concap Energiegel Carbo NRG. The effects of these gels can be felt by everyone after just 7 minutes.

The Concap Energy Gel Peach 60ml  is a gel containing a blend of glucose, fructose and maltodextrin. It contains 36.6g of carbohydrates and a small amount of additional salts. However, these salts have been added in limited quantities, and therefore not in the same amounts as in our gels supplemented with ORS salts. This energy gel is an excellent basic gel with a tear-open sachet that is easy to use. The fruity peach flavour is a popular choice for both novice and experienced athletes.

Need more? Our Concap Energy Gels Extra 80g Beta Fuel in Peach and Cola are just the thing. They come with a handy screw-top cap for on the go, so you can use them all at once or in smaller portions as you wish. The gels contain 52.16g of carbohydrates and are enriched with magnesium and vitamin B. The carbohydrate composition is a mix of glucose, fructose and maltodextrin. The ratio of glucose to fructose is 1.0 to 0.8. This makes them ideal for endurance sports, providing energy for both the short and long term.

The Energiegel Carbo NRG has a completely different composition and a more liquid texture. This Concap gel contains 60ml per serving, of which 22.6g are carbohydrates. The ratio is 2 parts glucose to 1 part fructose. Ideal for those who have never used gels before and need a stepping stone to gels with a higher carbohydrate content, or for those who find it difficult to swallow.

How to use the energy gels listed above:

Tear open the top of the packet or unscrew the cap at the top to use the product. Use the gel before or during exercise to support performance and endurance. Use 1 to 2 gels per hour. If you have a sensitive stomach, don’t forget to train your body to tolerate gels, especially if you wish to consume a lot of carbohydrates. Where possible, alternate with bars or increase the concentration of your sports drink slightly to compensate.

Energy gels containing ORS salts

In addition to the previous categories, we also stock energy gels to replenish electrolytes during exercise. The Concap Energy Gel 55-11 Cherry 60 ml contains 2.06g of salts per sachet and 43g of carbohydrates. This gel is mainly used in hot weather or during training camps in a warm climate. This energy gel is also ideal for athletes who sweat profusely during training sessions and competitions. In addition to extra salts, this product also contains a limited amount of caffeine (40mg per gel).

Then there are the Concap High NRG gels. These contain no less than 40g of carbohydrates per sachet (60ml) and 1g of salt. They are also enriched with B vitamins, magnesium and additional salts to provide optimal support for your energy levels, stamina and hydration.

B vitamins help maintain healthy energy levels and help combat muscle fatigue. Thanks to the addition of magnesium, this product also helps reduce muscle fatigue and helps prevent cramps whilst on the move. The added salts provide an ideal replacement for the electrolytes you lose through sweating.

Fancy trying these gels? They’re available in three fruity flavours: go for sweet strawberry, choose tart green apple, or opt for a refreshing, summery taste with watermelon. So with Concap, you’re not just choosing the fuel you need, but also the ultimate taste experience on the go.

The amount you use depends on the intensity of your workout. The gels listed above can be used during intense exercise at a rate of 1 gel every 45 minutes to 1 hour, supplemented with other carbohydrates as needed, depending on your individual requirements as an athlete. For less intense workouts, you can opt for 1 gel every 1.5 to 2 hours.

Energy gels containing caffeine

The Concap range includes two energy gels containing caffeine: the Concap Energy Gel Finale+ Amino 40 g and the Concap Energy Gel Carbo+. These energy gels are used for the final sprint.

Concap Energy Gel Finale+ Amino 40g is an energy gel enriched with amino acids, caffeine and guarana. It is ideal for giving your energy levels and mental focus an extra boost at the end of a strenuous workout, hence the word ‘finale’ in the name. It contains 26g of carbohydrates, 56.2mg of caffeine and 10mg of guarana.

The Concap Carbo+ Energy Gel has roughly the same composition as the Carbo NRG Energy Gel, but the Carbo+ contains added caffeine and guarana. The flavour is also different: the blackcurrant flavour offers a pleasant change when using it. This energy gel is also more liquid (compared to, for example, the Finale) and is available in a 60ml pack. The gel contains 22.6g of carbohydrates and 78mg of caffeine per 60ml serving.

How to use the energy gels listed above:

Tear open the top of the packet to use the product. It is best to use the gel towards the end of your workout, to support performance and stamina, approximately 30 to 50 minutes before finishing.

A maximum of 1 to 2 gels per hour during exercise.

Alternatives to gels

Concap Fruity Bars are a good alternative to energy gels. They work just as quickly (within 7 minutes of consumption), but have a firmer texture, making them more like a gummy sweet. There are also two varieties:

  • Made with pectin, which gives it a real gummy texture. Available in Blueberry, Cherry, Grape and Kiwi.
  • Made with agar-agar, making them even gentler on the stomach and gut. They come in the following flavours Lemon and Strawberry.
